<p>Candlewood Lake is the largest lake in Connecticut, and one of the largest man-made lakes in the United States of America. Located in western Connecticut it was formed behind a power dam south of the Rocky River&#8217;s juntion with the Housatonic River. The lake is bordered by five towns, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford and Sherman. Candlewood Lake offers a variety of recreation including power boating, sailing, jet skiing, swimming and fishing.</p>
<p>Candlewood Lake was created in the 1920s. Many of the farms and buildings were left standing. The lake is approximately 40 feet deep</p>

<P>Bethel, which means &#8220;House of God&#8221;, received the name from the General Assembly of the Colony of Connecticut when the parish of Bethel was organized in 1759. Bethel was considered part of Danbury until 1855 and the city&#8217;s records were destroyed by the British in 1777, during the Revolutionary War. The house at 245 Greenwood Avenue was built in 1760 by Captain Benjamin Hickock and is believed to have been used as a tavern before the Revolutionary War. The home at 55 Greenwood Avenue, known as the Barnum Homestead, circa 1790. The first vodka distillery in the United States was located in Bethel.</P><br />
<P>One of Bethel&#8217;s most noted sons is Phineas Taylor Barnum, born in Bethel in 1810. The P.T. Barnum Square boasted an enormous bronze fountain donated by&nbsp; &#8220;the greatest show on earth&#8221;, until the Doughboy Statue replaced it.&nbsp; Other attractions to Bethel include the Bethel Farmers Market, Bethel Firefighters Museum and Plumtrees Schoolhouse.</P><br />
<P>Bethel is alive with activity all year round. Municipal and Park and Recreation programs contribute to the town&#8217;s atmosphere. Bethel offers an exceptional school system, thriving downtown businesses and beautiful scenery. A great town to call home.</P><br />

<p>New Fairfield is a prestigious town dating back to 1724, when a dozen pioneers from Fairfield purchased the land from Squantz, Chief of the Schaghicoke Indians. They agreed to purchase this 32,000 acre territory for sterling silver, which is equivalent to $300.00. However, the town was not incorporated until 1740.</p>
<p>New Fairfield’s charming 20 square miles of land resides in Fairfield County, located in the southwestern portion of Connecticut. This primarily residential community offers easy access to Westchester, New York, and New York City. New Fairfield prides its self on low taxes and an exceptional school system. Originally known as Quanneapague, Newtown was purchased from the Pootatuck Indians in 1708 and incorporated in 1711. Embracing about 60 square miles of scenic property, the town is filled with rolling woodlands, rivers and gracious historic homes.</p>
<p>Newtown’s thoughtful planning in town development has guided growth, while managing to maintain an abundance of open space and protecting the uncommon atmosphere of rural tranquility. It is enjoyed by all of Newtown’s 25,000+/- residents. The quaint town center features a 100-foot Flag pole where the American Flag proudly waves. The world known Newtown Inn, Edmond town hall and fine antique homes characterize the town center.</p>
<p>Newtown offers many amenities, including the picturesque Lake Lillinonah and the recently built Newtown Youth Academy Center. The state-of-the-art center features an indoor track, two turf sport fields, basketball courts, a fitness center and much more. The grounds are landscaped with beautiful recreational fields that are open to the public and the recently renovated town hall.</p>

<p>The town of Redding, first settled in 1642 was incorporated in 1767. The town was originally names &#8220;Reading&#8221; for one of its original settlers John Read. The 9,000 +/- residents of Redding enjoy its primarily quaint New England character.</p>
<p>Redding has an exceptional academic school system, consistently ranked as one of the finest by the Connecticut Magazine. Well known Mark Twain, a prominant resident of Redding was honered for helping establish the town&#8217;s public library, known today as the Mark Twain Library. Redding is the home to two state parks. The Putnam Memorial Park which was a winter encampment for the Revolutionary War, and the Huntington State Park. <p>Wilton is a classical historic New England town located in southwestern Fairfield County. It has a population of approximately 18,000 residences. Wilton offers easy proximity to Stamford, Westchester, New York and New York City. There are two train stations for an easy commute.</p>
<p>Many of Wilton&#8217;s fine Antique homes date back to the early 1700s. Originally a farming community, Wilton has maintained its natural landscape with an abundance of protected open space. Known for its outstanding School system, Wilton offers three elementary schools, a middle school and high school. There are a variety of historical landmarks in Wilton, including the Wilton Heritage Museum, Wilton Playshop and the Weir Farm National Park.</p>
